Tephrostratigraphy of Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary beds of Western Siberia

چکیده
The age of tuffaceous interlayers, represented by tuffs and tuffites, which are common in the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous deposits Western Siberia (the Bazhenovo, Tutleim Frolov Formations), is discussed. nature these interlayers associated with subglobal (transfer more than 1--2 thousand km) spread volcanic ash (0.001--0.1 mm) its sedimentation burial a vast epicontinental marine basin during episodes low rates, weak hydrodynamic activity absence bioturbation. Despite extremely thickness pyroclastic layers (<1 mm -- first cm), they systematically noted drill core at certain stratigraphic levels. Tuffs tuffites clearly recognized due to sharp boundaries contrasting color mineral composition comparing host rocks. Moreover, often demonstrate exceptionally bright luminescence yellow orange tones ultraviolet. Some can be traced over area (more 700,000 sq hence used as isochronous markers.
Considering importance information about distal pyroclastics sedimentary strata, we have summarized data on boreholes Siberia, containing Jurassic - Lower Cretaceous. Integrated chronostratigraphy of Proterozoic-Cambrian boundary beds in the western Anabar region, northern Siberia.
Carbonate-rich sedimentary rocks of the western Anabar region, northern Siberia, preserve an exceptional record of evolutionary and biogeochemical events near the Proterozoic/Cambrian boundary. Sedimentologically, the boundary succession can be divided into three sequences representing successive episodes of late transgressive to early highstand deposition; four parasequences are recognized in ...
متن کاملMass mutations of insects at the Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary?
Diverse fossil insect assemblages near the Jurassic/Cretaceous transition from the Shar-Teg in Mongolia comprise frequent deformed species. These (first known) mass fossil animal deformities, expressed as fusions of veins changing the wing geometry, probably represent heritable mutations. They accumulated as a result of a changed structure of selective pressure, and are unique in showing how in...
متن کاملNew Ophthalmosaurid Ichthyosaurs from the European Lower Cretaceous Demonstrate Extensive Ichthyosaur Survival across the Jurassic–Cretaceous Boundary
BACKGROUND Ichthyosauria is a diverse clade of marine amniotes that spanned most of the Mesozoic. Until recently, most authors interpreted the fossil record as showing that three major extinction events affected this group during its history: one during the latest Triassic, one at the Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary (JCB), and one (resulting in total extinction) at the Cenomanian-Turonian boundary...
متن کامل6. Upper Jurassic-lowest Cretaceous Limestones Dredged from the Western Galicia Margin
Dredge samples of Upper Jurassic-lowest Cretaceous limestones were recovered from western Galicia margin. Limestones include benthic and/or planktonic assemblages, which were deposited in environments ranging from inner to outer shelf or upper slope.
متن کاملEnvironmental drivers of crocodyliform extinction across the Jurassic/Cretaceous transition
Crocodyliforms have a much richer evolutionary history than represented by their extant descendants, including several independent marine and terrestrial radiations during the Mesozoic. However, heterogeneous sampling of their fossil record has obscured their macroevolutionary dynamics, and obfuscated attempts to reconcile external drivers of these patterns. Here, we present a comprehensive ana...
